Frequently asked questions

  • Can I feel when I’m ovulating?
Some women can feel ovulation, which may involve mild pain or discomfort on one side of the lower abdomen, known as mittelschmerz. Other signs can include light spotting or increased cervical mucus.
  • When are you most fertile?
Women are most fertile in the days leading up to and including the day of ovulation. Ovulation usually occurs around 12–14 days before the next period starts, so in a typical 28-day cycle this would be around day 14.
  • When is it best to test for ovulation?
It is best to test for ovulation a few days before you expect to ovulate. If you have a regular menstrual cycle, you can start testing 10 days after the first day of your last period.
  • How many days can an ovulation test be positive?
A positive ovulation test indicates that the LH surge (luteinizing hormone), which triggers ovulation, has begun. You can expect to test positive for 1–2 days, but some women may have a positive ovulation test for up to 3 days.
  • When should you take an ovulation test? In the middle of your menstrual cycle, when the LH surge is expected.
  • What do the ovulation test results mean? A positive result indicates likely ovulation within 24–36 hours.
