Information
Product Information
This iron deficiency rapid test measures the ferritin level in the blood.
Ferritin is a protein whose concentration correlates with the body’s iron levels, which indicates whether you have iron deficiency.
The test works by pricking your fingertip with the included lancet and then placing a drop of blood into the sample well.
The result appears within 10 minutes and shows whether your ferritin is within the normal range or too low.
For more detailed instructions on how to perform the test, please refer to the user manual.
This test will show a positive result if ferritin is below 20 ng/mL.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How does a rapid iron deficiency test work?
An iron deficiency rapid test works by measuring ferritin, which is the primary storage form of iron in the body’s cells.
An abnormal test result means that the concentration of ferritin in the blood is lower than 20 ng/mL, which is an indicator that the body is lacking iron.
When should I take an iron deficiency test?
The iron deficiency test is ideal to take when you suspect iron deficiency. This may be the case, for example, if you experience symptoms of iron deficiency.
The test can be taken at any time of the day, but should not be taken during illness, acute inflammation, or spleen or liver damage, as these conditions increase the likelihood of an incorrect result.
What are the symptoms of iron deficiency?
Symptoms of iron deficiency include fatigue, weakness, pale skin, shortness of breath, dizziness, headaches and brittle nails.
More rarely, symptoms such as heart palpitations and shortness of breath on exertion are also seen.
What should you do about iron deficiency?
In cases of iron deficiency, you can increase your intake of iron-rich foods such as red meat, fish, poultry, lentils, beans and fortified cereals.
In some cases, iron supplements may be necessary, but they should only be taken on the recommendation of a healthcare professional.
Can you measure iron deficiency yourself?
It is not possible to accurately measure iron deficiency at home. A blood test
at the doctor is necessary to measure ferritin, which reflects the body’s iron stores,
and haemoglobin, which is an indicator of iron in the red blood cells.
Can I trust the result?
The result is reliable as long as the instructions are followed carefully.
The result may be incorrect if the ferritin test is wet before the test is performed, or if the amount of blood applied to the sample well is too small. The pipette included in the pack allows you to collect the correct amount of blood.
Due to the immunological principles used, there is a risk of incorrect results in some cases.
Is the result reliable if I read it later than 10 minutes after the test?
No. The result must be read 5 minutes after adding the reagent solution. The result is not reliable after 10 minutes.
What should I do if my test shows that I have iron deficiency?
If the test shows that you have iron deficiency, it means that the concentration of ferritin is lower than normal (30 ng/mL).
You should contact your doctor and share your test result. Your doctor will then decide whether further tests are needed.
What should I do if my iron deficiency test result is normal?
If the result is normal, it means that the concentration of ferritin is higher than 30 ng/mL and therefore within the normal range.
If your symptoms persist, you should still contact your doctor.
