Qualitative detection of capsular polysaccharides from Streptococcus pneumoniae in urine and cerebrospinal fluid.

Intended use and application

BIOSYNEX S. pneumoniae is an easy-to-use lateral flow test for rapid detection of pneumococcal antigen in urine and CSF. Pneumococcus is a leading cause of bacterial meningitis and can also cause pneumonia and otitis. A rapid antigen result can therefore support early clinical decision-making. Time to result: 15 minutes.

Performance and validation

Reported sensitivity 93%, specificity 96%, PPV 92% and NPV 97% versus a marketed reference test. An evaluation from Lille University Hospital concluded equivalence with the BinaxNow® pneumococcal antigen test. In vitro diagnostic – see IFU for details.

Sample type and procedure

Sample matrices: urine or CSF. Simplified procedure: add 1 drop of sample to the cassette’s sample well (S), add 3 drops of buffer, and read after 15 min. See full IFU for nuances and limitations.

Kit contents and compatibility
